Nickel alloy plates offer a range of advantages compared to alternative materials. They are extremely strong and durable, meaning they can handle far more wear and tear than other metals, making them an ideal choice for many industrial applications.

904L stainless steel is a superaustenitic stainless steel that contains high amounts of nickel and chromium, as well as molybdenum and copper. It's designed to resist corrosion in a variety of environments, and is more expensive than other types of stainless steel but is worth the cost for its superior corrosion resistance. 904L stainless steel also has excellent formability, weldability, and machinability, making it a good choice for applications that require durability and long-term performance

Here are some properties of 904L stainless steel:

  • Chemical composition25.5% nickel, 20.5% chromium, 4.5% molybdenum, 1.5% copper, 45% iron, 1% manganese, 0.01% carbon, 0.5% silicon, 0.02% phosphorus, and 0.02% sulfur
  • Corrosion resistanceResistant to strong reducing acids like sulfuric acid, as well as other inorganic and organic acids
  • Other propertiesNon-magnetic, tough, and resistant to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion
  • ProcessingCan be welded using standard shop fabrication practices, including TIG, MAG, arc, laser beam, and submerged arc welding.

904L stainless steel is used in many industries, including chemical processing, oil and gas, and pharmaceuticals.

Alloy 904L performs better than other austenitic stainless steels due to the higher alloying of nickel and molybdenum. The grade is non-magnetic in all conditions and has excellent formability and weldability. The austenitic structure also gives this grade excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures.

Nickel alloys are alloys that contain nickel as the main element and can be combined with other metals. They have many desirable properties, including:
  • Corrosion resistance: Nickel alloys are resistant to corrosion and oxidation, making them ideal for use in harsh environments.
  • High strength: Nickel alloys can be very strong.
  • Heat resistance: Some nickel alloys can withstand temperatures as high as 980 °C.
  • Ductility: Nickel alloys are tough and can withstand impacts without breaking suddenly.

There are three main groups of alloys: Ni-Cr (and also Ni-Cr-Fe) alloys with high electrical resistance for heating elements, such as 70-30 (UNS N06008) and C-Grade (UNS N06004) Ni-Cr alloys (with Fe and other alloying elements) with good corrosion resistance.
